Expansion of a small wildlife pond

The brief was to rebuild a larger, more aesthetically pleasing wildlife pond, in place of an already successful but very small one!

Flagstones were removed and a larger pond footprint created, with shallows for bog planting and marginals.

A banked area was created on one side, into which propagated plants from other areas of the garden were planted.

The original pond was emptied, and great care was taken to lift and store the existing pond plants, dragonfly nymphs, frogs and tadpoles.

The original pond water was used to contribute to refilling the new pond, so as to help re-establish the biodiversity.

The original pond plants were resituated, along with the frogs, dragonfly nymphs and tadpoles!

Reports of newt sightings were made by the client a few weeks later. Success!
