The Urban Family Wildlife Garden
This garden contained a lot of old, weathered hard landscaping.
The brief was to create a garden which provided a softer, more flowing layout.
The garden was to support the already existing wildlife, and to enhance the garden as a habitat.
The garden was to include edible plants, and some which had sensory attributes, to engage both children and adults alike.
The old hard landscaping was removed and replaced with a winding path, made with re purposed sandstone, which now leads to a medium sized wildlife pond.
Planting has been added to include native species, and plants which have seasonal interest and value for wildlife.
The wildlife pond was created with shallow areas, and a deeper area for the benefit of varying wildlife in its different life cycles.
As the pond matures, so will it's biodiversity.
A thyme and chamomile lawn was planted in place of a conventional grass lawn. This provides a beautifully scented lawn underfoot, and is a valuable food source for pollinators, including several bee species.
